The 45-year-old singer Shakiea has been caught for failing to pay taxes in Spain between the years 2012 and 2014 while she was living with ex-boyfriend, Gerard Pique. 

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is a Latin Singer from Colombia who has recently been ordered to stand trial for tax fraud in Spain. 

“That’s really unbelievable,” said Karina Mauricio, a sophomore. 

Authorities are seeking an 8-year term in prison for the missing $13.9 million. 

Due to Shakira’s charges, she was unable to perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening in Qatar. 

She’s defended herself by saying she was not in Spain at the time the authorities are saying she was. 

Her 11-year relationship with former soccer player Gerard Pique recently ended. While they were together, they had 2 kids and because of that they had a custody battle resulting in an agreement. 

Shakira is not the only one who has been involved in this tax fraud scandal. Soccer players Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were also investigated, but they were both able to avoid jailtime. 

Meanwhile, Shakira is still fighting to avoid it. The way things are going, who knows what’ll happen?
