What were your first thoughts when you heard what had happened?
“I was at my apartment and you could see the smoke from the room. I worked at the tower five years before it was hit.”
Did anyone call you panicking?
“My mother called me saying, ‘We got attacked.’”

“Beautiful day – a nice, perfect fall day.”
What were you doing on 9/11?
“I woke up a little late that day, in college getting ready for class.”
How old were you on 9/11?
“I was 20 years old.”
What was your first reaction when you heard what had happened?
“Very surprised, concerned for family that went to the city.”

“Not me, no. I called my grandparents and my dad.”

“Sunny, a little chilly.”

“In class (2nd grade).”

“Seven years old.”
What were your first thoughts on 9/11?
“A little confused and after watching the news. I couldn’t believe what was happening. It was my first real world experience.”

“I was too young to call anyone, but Mom got a call at school.”

“It was beautiful, sunny blue skies. I think I remember a few clouds.”
How old were you on 9/11?
“I was 22.”
Where were you on 9/11?
“I had an 8:00 a.m. philosophy class in college in the Bronx. I was walking to campus that day.”
What were your first thoughts on 9/11?
“Everyone was confused and it was crazy. Once the second plane hit, we realized it wasn’t an accident.”
Did anyone call you panicking to tell you what had happened?
“Back then, we had phones but there was no texting – just calls. Everyone’s phones started vibrating at the same time. My professor excused herself and stood out in the hallway, probably receiving the news. She then came back in and said class is cancelled.”

“I was teaching school in Levittown.”

“I was 44.”
What were your first thoughts when it happened?
“I didn’t know it was real. I thought somebody was playing a joke. It was so… I want to say surreal.”
Did anyone call you panicking to tell you what happened?
“No. At the time, a teacher came running to my classroom to tell me what happened.”
