“If you thinkin’ I’mma quit before I die, dream on,” sings Drake, a rapper whose star continues to rise by the minute. The Canadian rapper just released his new album “For All The Dogs” on Friday, Oct. 6, worldwide. It has already reached number 1 on the billboard charts.
Since Drake released his 8th solo studio album “For all The Dogs,” many fans feel that instead of improving in his musical career, he’s downgraded. According to the article “Too Much Filler, Not Enough Killer,” by Beilei Burgess-Simmons, “Instead of emotional depth and some honest self-reflection, it was just one more song of Drake whining about women and how rich he is.”
In 2006, Drake released his first mixtape called “Room for Improvement” which started what was to be a successful career. As time passed, Drake became more and more victorious when it comes to releasing because of his eccentric type of beats.
With Drake’s album “Thank Me Later” reaching 1,124,843,069 streams according to Spotify, he is clearly one of the most popular artists out there.
While Drake just launched his newest album, it seems that his most successful album is one of the older albums he’s made – studio album number two, the famous “Take Care” album. According to the article “Every Drake Album Ranked” published by Rolling Stone, “Drake’s big creative breakthrough, from November 2011, established him as the MC who can swerve from the street to the club to the after-hours drunk-dialing disaster without losing any of himself along the way.”
Sometimes old is better than new, and when it comes to Drakes’ music, many fans can agree.
“My favorite album by Drake is ‘Take Care,’” said Claudia Aparicio, a senior. “It has all the old hits; you can really see his growth as an artist.”
Many Drake fans like to listen to other artists with similar styles.
“Other than Drake, I like to listen to Rauw Alejandro, the Neighborhood, and The Weeknd,” Aparicio said. “I like the style of their music.”
For fans of his music, Drake is going on tour from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Buffalo, New York. Tickets are on sale now!
