La Sra. Wanda Ortiz-Rivera al igual que muchos de los estudiantes del Distrito Escolar de Brentwood,llegó a los Estados Unidos siendo muy joveny sin familia. Pero eso no fue un impedimento para lograr todo lo que se propuso.

Ella fue su propia motivación, y siempre pensó que todo es posible,logrando así llegar a ser superintendentedel distrito escolar de Brentwood. Antes de llegar a ser superintendente, la Sra. Ortiz- Rivera fue maestra de primaria. Desde un principio ella se enamoró de los niños y sus ocurrencias.

“Sentía en mi corazón que debía servirlea los niños,” Sra. Ortiz-Rivera. Ahora que es la superintendente, tiene la oportunidad de ayudar y servir a todos los estudiantes del Distrito Escolar de Brentwood, no solo a los estudiantes de escuela elemental. “Yo quiero que todos ustedes tengan las mismas oportunidades que tiene mi hijo. Quiero poder ayudarlos a ustedes para que se formen y puedan ayudar a susfamilias.”

Ella es una persona que cree que los estudiantes de Brentwood tienen muchopotencial para lograr todo lo que quieran.En sus palabras, todos los estudiantes son considerados para ella como sus “nenes.” Es una persona que toma muy enserio su trabajo para que los estudiantes puedan tener los recursos y las oportunidades de superarse.

La educación es la mejor herramienta que todos los estudiantes tienen para tener un futuro brillante. En la vida no todo es fácil, pero si se quiere se puede. La Sra. Wanda Ortiz-Rivera llegó a este país sin familia y sin saber inglés, eso no la detuvo para lograr llegar hasta donde está.

Unadelas cosas másimportantes que la señora toma en cuenta es que en la vida tenemos que considerar las necesidades de todos. Ella no juzgaporquesiempre se tienen que considerartodos los factores.

“You need to seek to understand to be understood.”- Sra. Ortiz- Rivera.

Esto se traduce a “Tienes que buscar entender para ser entendido.” Es decir, si queremos ser entendidos, tambiéntenemos que entender a los demás. No podemos esperar ser entendidoscuando no buscamosentender.

Ella es una persona muy unida a su comunidad. A cada miembro de la comunidad los ve como parte de su familia.

“Mi comunidad es mi familia. Es la familia que no tuve. Y en cada persona de aquí, yo veo a un miembro de mi familia.” – Sra.Ortiz-Rivera.

En cada estudiante, ve a su familia ybusca cuidarlos y dar lo mejor de ella para que estén bien. La familia se protege y ayuda, eso es lo que ella hace con todos los estudiantes y miembros dela comunidad educativa de Brentwood.

La Sra. Ortiz-Rivera estodo lo que un gran líderdebe representar. Esalguien que se preocupa por el bienestar de su comunidad. Una persona que lucha por proteger a los estudiantes y que siempre estábuscando oportunidades para que sean exitosos.

“Un líder tiene que hablar de nosotros. No soy yo, somos nosotros. Tiene que tener un propósito. Yo no soy experta en todo, se necesita un grupo que trabajeen conjunto para lograr las metas. Trabajar en equipoy ser transparente”- Sra.Ortiz-Rivera.

Es así, como se puede ver que ella no busca nada más que cuidar y proteger a todos los estudiantesasesorándose de otras personas para dicho propósito. El Distrito Escolar de Brentwood no podría estar en mejores manoso ser guiado por un mejor líder.

Mrs. Wanda Ortiz-Rivera, like many of the students of the Brentwood School District, came to the United States at a very young age and without family. But that was not an impediment to achieving everything she set out to do.

She was her own motivation, and she always thought that anything is possible, that’s how she accomplished to become superintendent of the Brentwood School District.

Before becoming superintendent, Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera was an elementary school teacher. From the beginning she fell in love with children and their amousing behavior.

“I felt in my heart that I had to serve the children,” Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera said. Now that she is the superintendent, she has the opportunity to help and serve all students in the Brentwood School District, not just elementary school students.

“I want all of you to have the same opportunities that my son has,” Mrs. Ortiz said. I want to be able to help you so that you are trained and can help your families.”

She is a person who believes that Brentwood students have a lot of potential to achieve anything they want. In her words, all students are considered to her as her “kids.” She is a person who takes her work very seriously so that students can have the resources and opportunities to improve themselves.

Education is the best tool that all students have to have a bright future. Not everything in life is easy, but if you want something, you can achieve it. Mrs. Wanda Ortiz-Rivera arrived in this country without family and without knowing English, that did not stop her from getting to where she is.

One of the most important things that Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera takes into account is that in life we have to consider everyone’s needs. She doesn’t judge because all factors always have to be considered.

“You need to seek to understand to be understood,” Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera said. If we want to be understood, we also have to understand others. We cannot expect to be understood when we do not seek to understand.

She is a person very close to her community. She sees each member of the community as part of her family.

“My community is my family. It’s the family I didn’t have. And in every person here, I see a member of my family,” Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera said.

In each student, she sees her family and seeks to take care of them and do her best so that they are well. The family protects and helps each other, that is what she does with all the students and members of the Brentwood educational community.

Ms. Ortiz-Rivera is everything a great leader should represent. She is someone who cares about the well-being of her community. She is a person who fights to protect students and is always looking for opportunities for them to be successful.

“A leader has to talk about us. It’s not me, it’s us. A leader has to have a purpose. I am not an expert in everything, it takes a group that works together to achieve goals. Work as a team and be transparent,” said Mrs. Ortiz-Rivera.

She seeks nothing more than to care for and protect all the students, receiving advice from other people for this purpose. The Brentwood School District could not be in better hands or guided by a better leader.
