Imagine seeing a whole new world from the comfort of your living room, experiencing a movie or game through astonishing glasses that could change the future of technology – and how we use it.
Virtuality Reality is a computer generated simulation that displays three-dimensional environments so that people can interact with them in a physical or realistic way. A VR/AR headset comes with different features that are more advanced than regular computers or video games.
“I think it may benefit accomplishing tasks as it’s a very advanced piece of technology,” said Daisy Santos, an 11th grade.
The purpose of the Apple Vision Pro is for enjoyment like games and movies, and for personal work. According to the article “What It Is And What It Is Not” author Kevin Krewell states, “The Vision Pro is being marketed as a personal productivity and entertainment device but with limited game support and no controller bundled with it.”
“I would use it for entertainment because doing it for work would not be as fun and useful as for entertainment like games and movies,” Caceres said.
The Vision Pro has many unique features when compared with other VR devices that are already on the market. According to the article “What Is Apple’s Vision Pro Really For?” authors Joshua Gans and Abhishek Nagaraj explain that “…Apple requires no physical controller to use the computer. The computer senses what you are interested in interacting with by watching your eye movement and then looks at your hands to determine what you want to do.”
Many common VR devices demonstrate a 2D object or scene according to what is being displayed or seen – but the Apple Vision pro can go a step further. As Gans and Nagaraj explain, “The Vision Pro can display 3D objects in your current space or even transport you to new spaces.”
“I have used a VR device, and it was very fun and entertaining,” Santos said.
Since this is a product that is made by the Apple company, this headset will function best with only Apple products. According to Krewell , “The Apple Vision Pro is presently tied to the Apple ecosystem and works best/only with Apple products.”
The cost for this device is relatively high because of what it contains and its material. Gans and Nagaraj claim that, “while would think that not many people would purchase it, some are already paying for more expensive products from apple than the Apple Vision Pro: “Would people pay $3,500 for that? They do right now. Even Apple sells a display (the Pro Display XDR) that can cost up to $6,000.”
Nevertheless, some Brentwood students demonstrated concerns about reliance on such technology.
“I would not use it daily because it can affect my work and [I’ll] become lazier,” said Jadelin Caceres, an 11th grader.
As of February 2, 2024 the Apple Vision Pro was released and the results were outstanding as of now 200,00 people have purchased this device, according to an article on MacRumors. This could mean the future will revolutionize perhaps right before our eyes.
