Some people enjoy the thrill of watching horror films while others would rather sleep peacefully at night. Some movies may go a little too far with their fear-inducing scenes. 

For example, “Evil Dead Rise,” which was released in 2023, is known for its extremely graphic and disturbing scenes. This movie made people feel very squeamish and was rated R.   

Night Swim is a film with a unique premise. It’s not often that you hear about a haunted swimming pool – usually, it’s the entire house. It was interesting to see how the movie was going to explain that a chlorine-filled body of water had a demon lurking in it.

“One of my friends said ‘Night Swim’ was boring,” said Marcus Lopez, a senior. “What caught my attention was the opening scene. It was one of the few shocking scenes in the movie.”

Many consider this movie a family horror movie because there is little to no violence or gore. So, it would be perfect for someone seeking a frightening but not intense horror film.   

“There were a few jump scares that made me jump but the movie itself was not scary at all and was not graphic,” Lopez said. “It has a few intense first-person point-of-views but that is it.”

The trailer shows a graphic glimpse of this movie. In this scene, a girl is seen with a horrified look on her face as she is pulling a piece of glass from out of her hand.    

“The only reason I watched the movie was because my friends and I were looking for something interesting to watch at the movie theater,” Lopez said.

What drew him into watching the movie was the trailer. He figured that if the producers of “M3GAN” and “The Nun” had teamed up to produce “Night Swim” it had to be an outstanding piece of film.  Watching it on a big screen with friends made it more bearable to watch.   

 Unfortunately, the movie did not meet audience expectations. There could have been more craziness within the movie. There should’ve been more bodies floating on the surface of the water.

People want to see mass destruction. If you want to see that, one suggestion is to watch the movie “Below.” It’s a horror movie that also takes place in a submarine during World War II and a wide range of disasters occur throughout the movie.
