When the bell rings and the school day is over, be ready for lunch! School buses will now be making stops at the Cubanita deli for students to buy delicious sandwiches on their way home. School lunches will not be as popular after Brentwood High School changes their bus routes to stop at the deli.
Many Brentwood students have been complaining about the food served in cafeterias, so the high school has decided to provide an alternative option after period 9. This may help students look forward to coming to school and increase overall attendance.
“I thought this partnership was a great idea since I know how much the students love our food,” said Mr. Cuban, founder of Cubanita. “I am excited for the change and hope you all are ready to eat.”
Brentwood High School will be making these changes starting at the beginning of the 2025 school year. Brentwood will only be allowing students who are seniors and juniors who take the bus to get food from the deli after school. Sophomores must pay $5 for a pass to go to the deli when the bus stops.
“Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me, Eat Me!!!” said Mr. Sandwich, a food item at Cubanita.
Seniors with a 3.0 GPA may be eligible for a pass that grants them a free Pernil sandwich once a month. Juniors may be granted a discount of 50% off if they have good attendance (five or less absences). These discounts may not be given to students with multiple detentions or other disciplinary issues on their record.
Cubanita and BHS have also been in talks to provide students at the high school with Cubanita sandwiches in lunchrooms once a week on Fridays. Cubanita has also offered to provide other popular items, such as beverages and desserts, for students to purchase in the school cafeterias.
“We are trying to start field trips as well for BHS students to come in and learn about cooking for their culinary classes,” said Ms. Reuban, a chef at Cubanita deli.
With all the profits Cubanita plans to make from the partnership with the high school, it is also hoping to open a new location in Central Islip. Cubanita is also hiring Brentwood High School students and may offer many scholarship opportunities for culinary students.
