Brentwood has heard the complaints of all the students who dislike the “boring, loud, chaotic,” school cafeterias. Their solution is a complete overhaul of the cafertia in favor of an 1800’s style ballroom.
“The cafeterias are bland and outdated, so replacing them is the most welcome change the school has made in a while,” said Dadeleus Dasilvia, a dancer.
The room will be expanded slightly to provide additional space for dancing. The new layout involves circular tables all around a big empty space where students can dance to their hearts’ content.
This will also push the kitchen a bit further back, giving the cafeteria staff less space to work with. However, they will be preparing less complicated meals as the school is planning to keep the authenticity of the ballroom alive with food that would be served in a formal setting.
These foods will have smaller portions but will be served more frequently and to each table. This new menu includes bread sticks, salads, cheese platters, roasted potatoes and vegetables, onions and mac and cheese, a variety of chocolates (mostly being dark chocolate), sliders, and pretzel bites.
“The school brought me in to try the food and I can confirm that it all tastes delicious,” said Dawn Magenta, member of the taste testing club.
Since the kitchen staff are expected to serve the food to every table, they will also get a 10 percent increase on their next two pay checks.
The school is taking great strides to make the ballroom as realistic as possible. In all the ballrooms, classical music will be played, featuring classics like “Symphony No. 5” by Beethoven, “Serenade No. 13” by Mozart, “The Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss II, and “Gold and Silver Waltz” by Franz Lehár.
Students will also be allowed to rent out dresses and tuxedos that match the 1800’s aesthetic. For just 20 dollars per month, students will be able to wear fancy attire, but only if they sign up for this subscription at the start of their first year at the high school. Please note: once a student signs up, he or she is forced to continue the subscription until graduation.
The ballroom is also going to be open for 3 hours after the regular school day ends. Students can bring outside dates, such as a crush, ex, best friend, family, or even their dog to continue to learn new dances.
The ballrooms are set to be set up on April 1 at 3:00 p.m. A mandatory meeting will be held on April 6 to explain the purpose of the ballrooms to parents and families.
“Isn’t this a little above and beyond?” said Zaria Graves, founder of the Undead Club. “We were just complaining about the food.”
