We did it. We finally made it to where we have always been going. The end was always going to come anyways, right?
Let me get down to business by establishing who I am – or who I was. My name is Alvin, and I am a BHS journalism student for the year 2023-2024. I always loved writing and being able to put my writing on display for the world to see. It was like everyone got to hear my voice and everything that I had to say.
When I first started writing for the school’s newspaper, I never really thought that people would care to read anything that I put out. But many of my friends loved the articles I wrote, and even people I didn’t know told me they enjoyed them as well. After hearing that, I had the motivation to keep writing and doing everything I could to be the best writer I could be.
I loved writing articles for the paper this year. Many of my teachers like Mr. Deorag, Mr. Salanitri, and most importantly, SMSgt. Hanna, loved the work that I did for the newspaper. My favorite teacher this year was Mr. Deorag as he understood his students well and had an amazing connection with them.
I enjoyed Mr. Deorag’s class a lot, not just for him being my economics teacher but because of him being a very good friend. He would joke around with his students and stop his lesson just so he could give advice to his students about the real world. I had fun being able to joke around and have conversations with him. It wasn’t like I was talking to at person who was just there to teach and leave.
I didn’t just have good teachers; I also had amazing friends. Steven Solano, Christian Osorio, Mathew Osorio, and Joao Pacora have all had such a positive impact on my life and the work I have put into the newspaper. Christian has helped me write four of my articles and has helped me draw my editorial cartoon, which was a lot of work. I knew when he offered to help, he’d be able to do it well.
School wasn’t all easy whenever I walked through the entrance of the Sonderling building. There were people trying to put me down, but soon I came to accept that I could do better and prove many wrong.
I was never a straight-A student but at least I was me, Alvin Amador, a BHS student that devoted his life
working hard and trying his best to make his mark on not just the school but the world.
