Meet the New 2024 Staff of Ross & Sonderling

Brentwood High School is home to 26 new staff members this school year. As a School Improvement Team (SIT) initiative, we composed a list of all recent hires so that staff and students could learn more about the new employees that have joined our Brentwood family.
Meet the New 2024 Staff of Ross & Sonderling
Bianca Broere, English

Hello Brentwood, my name is Bianca Broere, and I am an English teacher in the Sonderling building. For the past several years, I have been a substitute and leave replacement at the Freshman Campus.

Before becoming a secondary education teacher, I worked in early childhood education as a lead teacher of three-year-olds. I have always enjoyed helping students learn and grow into the best and most confident version of themselves and am so excited to continue my teaching journey here at Brentwood High School.

A bit about me: I enjoy concerts, visiting nature preserves around Long Island, reading, playing video games with my husband (Stardew Valley is my favorite!), and spending time with my friends and family.

As a former Brentwood student myself, I know just how wonderful this community truly is and I could not be more thrilled to be a part of it once again and to work alongside such incredible teachers and students.

Kevin Chacon Ortiz, English/ENL

Hello all! My name is Kevin Chacon Ortiz, and since my family moved to the country from Ecuador over 20 years ago, I have always been local. I graduated from Patchogue-Medford High School, then went to Stony Brook University for my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Linguistics and English Education. I may not be native and pronounce the silent R in “idea,” but I was built strong among the Long Island throngs of the south shore. When I am not worrying about work – hypothetically speaking, because I am ALWAYS worrying about work – I enjoy reading, going for nature walks, and studying linguistics. My ultimate goal is to finish paying it forward.

Andrew D’Addario, Social Studies

Hello, Brentwood! My name is Andrew D’Addario and I am a new Social Studies teacher in the Sonderling Center of the high school. I feel so fortunate to be welcomed into this wonderful community and can’t wait to get even more involved as I start my career teaching here. I taught Social Studies last year out east on Long Island at Riverhead High School and for two years prior to that in the East Islip School District at both the middle school and high school. I graduated from St. Joseph’s College with a degree in History and Adolescent Education and I am currently working on my master’s degree in Applied Literacy at Queens College. I have a great desire to pass on my passion for history to our students and stimulate a desire for them to become involved citizens who are civically engaged in our political process. I strive to make my lessons engaging and my classroom environment safe and welcoming for every student. I am also coaching Boys Soccer at West Middle and it has been so great to be able to make relationships with the students on my team and others at West Middle this fall. I have also coached baseball and basketball along with soccer in my previous school districts. When I am not in the classroom or on the athletic field, I am most likely spending time with my three younger siblings and the rest of my family. I enjoy going to concerts and sporting events with friends. I am a fan of rock and alternative music and my favorite band is the British band, Oasis. I am a huge sports fan, with my loyalties belonging to the N.Y. Mets, Arsenal FC, the N.Y. Giants, N.Y. Rangers and N.Y. Knicks. I am so excited to meet even more amazing people at Brentwood and make a positive impact on the lives of students here. Thank you all for being so welcoming!
