It’s been 30 years since the first iconic “Toy Story” came out and over the years parents and children alike have loved them and learned many life lessons. Toy Story 5 will be released in theaters on June 19, 2026. The film will focus on how technology is affecting playtime and how the age of tangible toys may be over.
You must be wondering how Disney has been able to create so many new Toy Story films and maintain audience interest. According to the Disney company, the films are interesting because they continue to give adults and children alike the perspective of a toy and how that toy sees life.
According to an article by The Walt Disney company, “Leaving a toy out in the rain had never been touched after three [Toy Story] movies. The thing that people expect or assume is that we have to do to something more [spectacular].”
The films portray how toys can be forgotten and treated badly, and how toys are changing as time progresses.
“It’s funny how they make the toys seem human,” said Mr. Bellafiore, a Forensics teacher.
Toy Story 5 will bring up a highly relevant and real-world issue; the displacement of traditional toys by digital technology. The film explores how children won’t be able to experience the joy in playing with traditional toys.
According to an article by Zack Sharf, “‘Toy Story 5’ finds Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the beloved gang facing off against an iPad-like tablet called Lilypad… the movie is ‘not even really about a battle so much as the realization of an existential problem: that nobody’s really playing with toys anymore.”
“I think that technology is taking away the innocence of childhood that kids used to have before,” said Rafael Estrada, a senior. “With tangible toys kids were able to use their imagination and socialize with other kids by playing with these toys, but now all of that is being restricted.”
Toys are being forgotten replaced and tossed away but that same toy that’s being tossed away a child might be out there wanting that exact toy especially with the technology toy are being neglected toy story as whole.
It’s trying to illustrate the importance of cherishing one’s toys and not forgetting them, and the feeling that toys bring to each other and their owners.
The first Toy Story achieved an Academy Award® and earned Oscar® nominations for Best Original Song, Best Original Score, and Best Original Screenplay, marking the first time an animated film had been recognized for screenwriting.
“I was 15 when the first Toy Story movie came out. I remember being impressed with the digital animation when it was done,” said Mr. Lambert, a Physics teacher.
In the future, there may be Toy Story 6 about the evolution of artificial intelligence. There’s still a lot of inspiration out there for new Toy Story films.
