The Rise of Fleance, and the Continuing Protection of Scotland… (Macbeth sequel)

May 23, 2019
[5 years later at a castle in the Queen’s chambers].
Malcolm: Doctor, what is the news? Has my queen birthed the child?
Doctor: My lord, sadly she had another miscarriage. If you want an heir, adoption may be the best bet for you and the further progress of Scotland.
Malcolm: The pain of three lost children has taken its toll on both of us. Yet what child of nobility can I find? The remanding children of thanes are either far too grown beyond their years or are cemented as theirs. The only one left is young Fleance, the son of fallen Banquo whom lives in this castle. He has worked hard after being found in Birnam Wood during that great fight years ago. I must go to Fleance.
[At the courtyard: Fleance raising his sword against Macduff]
Fleance: And you shall be slain!
[Fleance’s sword is flung to the ground].
Macduff: You still have much to learn but you’re getting better. You might even become as great as your father.
[The bells ring].
Macduff: A meeting with the king is required. Fleance, come with me.
Malcolm: An urgent situation has arrived and sadly our child didn’t live past labor. Another miscarriage has happened. Yet I have chosen an heir to the throne and the future King of Scotland. Myself and the queen have spoken and came to the same conclusion: the heir shall be the son of a martyr. Worthy Fleance shall be crowned future king.
All: Hail future king of great Scotland!
[10 Years after Fleance’s crowning]
Son: …And what happened to Malcolm?
Fleance: Sadly, he was killed when the English wanted to unite the island by force. But I saved Scotland. Yet the English still have the desire to take over. They have already taken over the kingdom of Wales so we must keep fighting.
Son: Why do they want to fight us, dad?
Fleance: Because they wanted to be stronger. They want to unite this island under their flag. I have to call upon a favor from your uncle in Ireland to win the conflict. But it’s up to us to defend our kingdom when I leave the throne. I don’t think the English king will stop.
