The Blur

The Blur

By K.Wilson

I was on the beach late one night. I knew I should not have been there, but there I was instantly drawn to the water.  The water was very shallow that night. I loved the way the cool summer breeze braced against my bare face. As I stood there, the tips of my toes touched the water, while the heels of my feet stayed buried beneath the sand. “Creak.” I heard a quiet eerie sound. I gasped and turned my head frantically left and right.  I was a bit confused because I thought I was the only one on the beach, but perhaps not.

I shouted, “Who’s there? Reveal yourself.” Yet there was no answer. I repeated myself again; no answer. Suddenly, I saw something blurry, slowly creeping out from underneath the water. Then something strange happened as if I was in a trance. I felt even more drawn to the water than before. I jumped into the water and began to swim towards the blur. I didn’t want to go near it, but I couldn’t stop. I was eventually  in front of the blur. I began to feel dizzy in the water. When I looked at the blur, I attempted to reach out to it and suddenly, the shape of the blur transformed.

My mouth dropped when I saw what the blur had become. It had shifted in to a  replica of me. I was literally staring at myself. I was about to scream when the blur that looked exactly like me, put its hand over my mouth preventing me from being able to speak. The blur then slowly took its hand off my mouth and made a quiet “shhh” noise. I nodded and gulped nervously. Right before my eyes the blur turned back in to its original form and sunk beneath the water. I swam out of the water quickly and ran all the way back home. My mind was completely in scrambles. I never told anyone what I witnessed that night because I thought they would think I was crazy. After that mysterious incident happened, I never went back to the beach again and I never had another encounter with the strange blur.
