On Friday, Oct. 27, the Brentwood seniors headed to Pennsylvania to attend the annual Halloween Haunt at Dorney Park. Mrs. Rivas and Mrs. Cereola, senior class advisors, planned and organized the yearly event.
“I think it was an overall success,” said Mrs. Cereola. “We had a minor bus issue, but we still left before 2 o’clock (the last bus). Everyone had enough time in the park, we got there at 6:15PM; and the park closed at 11. Everyone was on the bus on time.”
“Overall, everything and everyone had a great time,” Mrs. Rivas said. “Perfect weather and we were able to bring 312 seniors.”
This year’s senior trip was completely sold out, which exceeded the expectations of both Mrs. Cereola and Rivas. When asking if the students lived up to the Brentwood name and represented the school in a respectful manner, both said “Absolutely!”
Both Rivas and Cereola enjoyed seeing students create memorable moments during the trip. Mrs. Rivas claims her favorite part of the trip was “watching everyone smile, eat, win prizes, go on scary rides and just spending quality time together as a class.”
Many students expressed how much they loved the trip on social media, even in spite of unexpected obstacles.
“The Ferris wheel broke but that’s out of our control,” said Mrs. Cereola.
As many students were going to be attending the trip, it was important to establish rules and regulations for the seniors so everyone could be safe and have a good time.
“We’re always updating ourselves on the new rules at Dorney or the new rules administration wants,” Mrs. Rivas said. “We’re always keeping ourselves in the loop…so we can communicate that to the seniors.”
The advisors mentioned the tragic incident involving a bus of Farmingdale High School students that occurred on October 13. The bus crash that resulted in the lost lives of two Long Island educators and dozens of injured passengers. For Rivas and Cereola, safety was imperative.
“It’s a 3 to 4-hour drive with teens and we saw what happened at Farmingdale High school, so we just wanted to make sure that everyone gets there safely, all together,” said Rivas.
For current sophomores and juniors, the senior class advisors had some words of advice: “Don’t wait to buy your ticket and save money for anything for senior year. Be prepared!”
