Dear Hallway Gremlins,
I’ve got to ask how you all seem to continue to be here after the bells have rung and the swept has finished? Perhaps you’re moving too slowly to get to a class?
When I get stuck behind two of you, I certainly have trouble getting to class on time. It aggravates me so, especially when I end up rushing past to not see eyes staring back at me and instead see eyes staring at phones.
But sometimes it’s not even just two – I’ve seen groups of three, four, or even six in the hallways taking up space and not letting me pass. Then eventually when I get tired of waiting and rush my way through suddenly, I’m an ignoramus?
If you come into the building, you should understand that the reason we are here is to learn. Learning should be your number 1 priority above all. It may be nice now but, in the end, when you have to come back to the building during the summer, I bet it will be real fun to either deliver or have the news delivered to your parents.
I hope you all realize you’re not just blocking the people behind you. It can be just as much of a chore to get past you when you’re creating a wall around the halls. I’m not an ignoramus for trying to get to class and bumping into your shoulder.
You have got to understand that there are times and places where you can hang out and times where you shouldn’t. The hallways still aren’t the place for that during class periods. I don’t want to be interrupted when I’m writing an important paper in English by phones blaring and children speaking because you obtuse fools would rather fail the year instead of waiting until the school day is over.
The hallways are a pathway to get to class, not a playground for children to lounge around, fight and chill out in. The walk from Sonderling classes to classes in Ross takes a minimum of two minutes.
No one wants to get caught in a hall sweep because you obstreperous nincompoops took time out of your day to fight and ended up with a detention over issues that won’t matter in 5 years. Or worse, get a detention because you decided now was the perfect time to move slowly and watch TikToks.
I understand that school is the easiest place to meet up with your friends. It’s difficult to make plans when a multitude of roadblocks, such as chores or work schedules keep getting in the way. We have all been there where we want to hang out, but we can’t for one reason or another.
However, there is always time at the end of every week when school is out, and you can have time to spend with others. Beyond weekends, there are also several break days and vacations spread throughout the year that could be used for planning your social calendar. So, if you can’t hang out one week, simply have patience until something opens for all members involved.
I can only hope you at the least understand that my rushing past you isn’t personal and shouldn’t be seen as such. I hope you all realize there are better times and places to hang out than the hallway. It’s the morning, we’re all tired, but that’s no excuse to be moving slower than the sun rotates.
Just a “passing” thought,
Danny Lainez
