There was once a village

as merry as can be

because no one else basked in the sun

as much as people like these

However, at the cost of this,

people fear the night, which they wished to dismiss.

Fortunately, there was a girl.

She was the light of their world,

she made lanterns to combat the dark

that way when morning came,

the sunshine that came was even more stark.

The Lantern Keeper was what she became known as.

Nothing more, nothing less.

For it is the light in the past

that she has to harness

By the time twilight came, the Keeper was cold.

Even with the blankets she holds,

her room had always been the richest blue

from there to her entire household.

She never did mind, and no one knew either.

Who else was going to bring the fire?

It was her duty, after all.

Her neighbors, her friends needed the light

because she believes they don’t deserve to fall.

One day, however. a villager came knocking on her door.

She answered it: a boy she knew long ago

holding a lantern that she crafted before.

The Keeper was then struck deep in her core,

a feeling that brought her to tears.

All the boy could say was that he wanted to give back

the very light she gave, which

was enough to mend the Lantern Keeper’s cracks.
