U-Picking at Lewin Farm

U-Picking at Lewin Farm

Catherine Torres

Going to your local supermarket is not the same anymore. Why continue this tedious task when you can pick fresh fruits and vegetables right out from the plant?
Lewin Farm is a family farm located in Wading River, at the East End of Long Island. Almost every acre of its land is a different spot for picking fresh fruits and vegetables. There’s a large variety of food one can choose from. These include but aren’t limited to: apples, peaches, plums, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, nectarines, tomatoes, pumpkins, eggplants, and bell peppers.
This farm is located in 812 Sound Avenue, Calverton, N.Y. It is a little tricky to get around but there are signs on every corner saying where things are located.
The month of September is usually the best time to go pick up some fruits and vegetables. The stands are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the “U-pick” sections are usually open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These times can vary, of course, with holidays, weather and season.
So what is everyone waiting for? Go pick some nice juicy strawberries and some sweet apples  today!
