On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Brentwood Varsity Football team broke their losing streak at homecoming.
The Brentwood Indians faced off against Patchogue-Medford`s Raiders at Brentwood’s home field. After an intense game, Brentwood took the victory over Pat-Med, finally lifting the homecoming curse.
The bleachers were filled with tons of cheer and support well before kickoff. This fueled the team’s confidence going into the game.
“I felt excited going in, we needed to make something happen and what better time to do it than homecoming,” said senior Carlos Garcia, outside linebacker.
The team prides themselves on having their defensive performance. They try to focus on shutting down the opposing team’s offense and capitalize on turnovers.
“Our goal defensively was to make sure their team felt exhausted on every single play,” said freshman Kenny Walls.
Regardless of the lead, the players made sure to stay mentally tough during halftime.
“Our mental toughness played a huge role in our performance, we were tired, but we couldn’t let it get the best of us,” Garcia said.
One of the touchdowns for Brentwood is attributed to 12th grader Eliezer Ordonez, fullback, on a 5-yard pass.
“After I caught the ball, everything went blank. I felt like I was on autopilot and couldn’t stop running until I crossed that goal line,” said Ordonez.
Brentwood ended the game victorious with a final score of 13-6.
“When the clock hit 0, I couldn’t believe we did it,” said senior Nesean Hunt, defensive end.
