Have you watched Monet McMichael and Dais Mendoza, two of TikTok’s most popular beauty gurus, for makeup tips and recommendations for new products? Beauty influencers on TikTok have been elevating recently released products to help new brands gain the recognition they deserve.
According to Vogue, the Dior Lip Oil costs around 40 dollars. As the popularity of the product increases, it has raised the overall price.
“I feel that the Dior Lip Oil is way too overhyped and there are better and cheaper products,” said Brissia Bonilla, a sophomore.
Some have compared e.l.f. and Dior products and favor e.l.f. products. Critics say Dior’s Lip Oil is extremely expensive. The identical product from e.l.f., called Glow Reviver Lip Oil, costs only 8 dollars.
“e.l.f. Lip Oil is similar with a bit of a difference to the Dior Lip Oil, but it’s a great dupe,” said Estrella Pineda, an 11th grader.
Dior Lip Oil has lots of hydrating contents. According to the article “Tik Tok Made Me Buy It: Dior’s Addictive Lip Glow Oil,” the product “promises to instantly enhance your entire complexion with beautified glow lips, for up to six hours glossy lip.”
“I’m obsessed with the Dior Lip Oil, and I do feel that it is worth the price and hype,” said one Brentwood 5th grader. “I feel that it is way more glossy and long-lasting than the e.l.f. dupe everyone talks about.”
But critics of the lip oil claim that it doesn’t have a noticeable hydrating benefit on the lips. Others dislike the sheer color. Vogue states that “there are other products that have the same quality and texture for way cheaper and affordable.”
“I do feel that I’m paying for the pretty packaging but not a good product,” Bonilla said.
