Teenagers have been talking about wearing more comfortable shoes. “Crocs, with no socks” have been taking teens by storm due to their rubbery texture.
“Crocs are pretty cozy. They are very easy to wear out when you don’t want to put much effort into your outfit,” said Roger Cruz, a 12th grade student.
“Crocs are very snug, and they don’t make your feet feel very tight,” said Jennifer Padilla ,a 10th grade student.
Crocs were invented by three friends back in 2002: Scott Seamans, Lyndon Duke Hanson, and George Boedecker, Jr. Crocs were originally made as boating shoes for the friends but soon the shoes became popular as comfy shoes to wear anywhere.
Seamans, Hanson, and Boedecker were selling many pairs and making about $24,000 in December 2002, according to stockanalysis.com. Over the next 3 years, they went up in sales, making $1.17 million in 2003 until 2005, when they made $108.58 million according to stockanalysis.com. The Crocs brand was doing well until the economic recession of 2008 that really hit them hard and made their sales go down.
After about a decade in 2020-2022, crocs began to resurface again and become even more popular than before. During this time, many people were seeing celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Post Malone wearing crocs, according to Medium.
“I like the different colors and how they collab with really cool brands and people,” said Cruz.
The Croslite material in crocs has a similar texture to the rubber in sandals and makes it easy for someone to put them on and go where they need to. Some Crocs owners go the extra mile and wear them with socks, but many prefer to wear crocs with no socks. The Crocs company has recently been trying its best to be more plant-based, changing its materials a little according to DesignLifeCircle.com.
There are many different ways to style Crocs, from the color of the shoes to the jibbitz (the gems or shoe charms) that can be added to them. According to its official website, the company sells shoe charms separately from the shoes and they have many jibbitz to wear on your Crocs like little stars, hearts, movie characters, game characters, emojis, and so much more.
If the gems aren’t your style, you could still style up your Crocs with colors like grey, green, blue, red, purple, and more.
“Crocs have different gems, and they can help style your shoes,” said Ashley Montero, 12th grade student. “I own two pairs of Crocs and they are both very comfy. One has fluff on the inside and the other is rubbery.”
Social media has had an impact on Crocs and how they are received. Crocs have begun to make limited edition versions of their shoes like SpongeBob SquarePants Crocs, Patrick Star Crocs, and Lighting Mcqueen Crocs. Collaborations have been posted on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“There are some brand crocs that came out recently that are Lightning Mcqueen’s and I’m looking forward to seeing if I buy them myself,” Montero said.
Crocs are the shoe you can rely on. Whether you are walking home, on the sandy beach, in the hallways at school, or at the mall, crocs are appropriate for any location.
